Summary

The objective of this project is to develop a microwave absorption system, for reflected high frequency radiation, using nanostructured ferrite coatings deposited by High Velocity Oxy Fuel technique. The nanostructure and the low porosity of the coating are critical for the optimum performance of the system.

The project is structured in four work packages:

1. Laboratory development of powder and HVOF process

2. Industrial validation of process

3. Industrial evaluation and technology transfer

4. Project management and report preparation

The main involvement of Pyrogenesis in this project is the validation of the HVOF spraying process under industrial conditions for the production of the specified nanostructured coatings for the microwave absorption system. The coatings produced by Pyrogenesis will be compared with the laboratory scale trial coatings in terms of density and microstructure. They will also be compared with the sintered ferrite materials, currently used in the industrial production of waveguide components intended to be replaced by the developed technology, in terms of the microwave absorption characteristics.
